How It Works
The following seven steps describe our submission and publication schedule. For additional details regarding the single steps please have a look at the information on our submissions page.
Submission Phase 1: Originals
For our “Originals” section, we welcome fiction, poetry, and visual narrative pieces that are primarily human-made but include a limited and clearly marked portion generated with or heavily influenced by AI. Submissions for this section are always open. Unless otherwise requested for one of our themed anthologies, you can choose any genre and topic you like. For more information have a look at our submission guidelines.
Selection & Publishing Phase 1
We select work for our “Originals” section to be published on beat-my-ai.com based on merit and fulfillment of the section criteria stated in our submission guidelines. Depending on the number and quality of the submissions we receive, we aim to publish at least one piece every second Tuesday.
Submission Phase 2: Contender
As soon as an Original is published, the clock starts ticking. Every writer or artist who thinks they can improve on the AI-part of the Original has up to four weeks to come up with a human-made alternative. This Contender has to be written or created in such a way that it can replace the AI-part of the Original completely.
Selection & Publishing Phase 2
When the submission countdown of a specific Original has reached zero, Contender submissions for this work are closed and we will select up to five Contender pieces to be published alongside the Original. All possible replacements chosen will be published at once about one week after Contender submissions are closed.
Contender Voting Phase
After both Original and Contender pieces are published, a six weeks voting phase begins. Writers and readers alike can vote for their favorite Contender pieces that best fit the human-made parts of the respective Original. You can vote for more than one Contender, but only once per Contender piece.
Final Original-Contender-Combo
After the voting phase is over, the Contender with the most votes will become one part of the final Original-Contender-Combo. The winning piece will remain published alongside the Original in a before/after presentation for readers to enjoy and study.
Anthology Publication
Twice a year, we will select the most outstanding Original-Contender-Combos to be published in an e-mag (and later on maybe printed) anthology.
